                                                                                Blog #12

When looking back at it, public speaking was a very interesting class. I learned a lot of stuff about public speaking, and also a lot about myself. I learned how to deliver a speech confidently, and this came with getting to know people in my class. I also learned how a debate is set up, and I think I became better at arguing by debating on the go with our random topic debates. I also think that I have grown in many ways because of this class. I have obviously grown in my ability to speak publicly, but I also grew in keeping my mouth shut when I disagreed with someone. I grew in my ability to use iMovie, and that is a skill I'm glad I've improved in. I also think that I improved my ability to not be fidgety when speaking. I swayed a lot more at the beginning of the semester, and that was one of my goals. So what could I have done better or more of? My first couple of speeches were not delivered very well, but I think i was just getting used to public speaking and was nervous for some reason. Other than that I can't really think of anything that I could have done more of. Going into this class my overall goal was to become more comfortable with public speaking, and I think I accomplished that goal.

Public speaking

                                                              The best ted talk ever

My ted talk is on the best looking quarterback ever, who is that you might ask? You guessed it, the legend himself, Tom Brady. But as we come closer to presenting our ted talks, it seems clear I have some polishing up to do. I will be focusing mostly on how tom Brady went against all odds, and went on to become the greatest quarterback of all time. It doesn't matter what challenge or obstacle you put in his way, he always seems to come out on top. I will use more specific examples, like how he was not being looked at by many colleges coming out of high school. Or how he was the 4th string qb going into his freshman year at Michigan, or even when he tore his acl in 2008. But first, I will give a little background on tom Brady and how he was a small town kid from San Mateo California. And how his first love was not football, but baseball. But the one thing I think I need to work on his how, and when I talk about how tom Brady overcame challenges in his life. It's not that I'm not sure what I'm going to say, but how I'm going to organize my ted talk. I think what I will end up doing is introduce my topic as " how tom Brady overcame challenges and obsticals in his life" but then I will talk for a minute or two on his achievements and statistics. Then I will jump right into how he did all this with all the odds against him. I will talk about his work ethic, and dedication got him to where he is today, and why he is such an inspiration to me and so many other people around the world. I also need to add a couple more pictures. After I have chosen all my pictures, I also need to practice my ted talk a few times so I will be able to time up my pictures with my speech and be more comfortable and confident.

Ted talk

Tom Brady was born in San Mateo California and was a 49ers fan as a young kid. He idolized joe Montana, and played baseball, basketball, and football at his highschool. The football team was really bad at his school and the only reason he started was because the starting qb quit.He played well as a starter his sophmore and junior year, and was able to get a scholarship, and attend michigan university for football.

He didn't play until his junior year but won a majority of his games as a starter and brought the wolverines to a bowl game tat they won. He went to the nfl combine and was described as scrawny, bad in the pocket, weak thrower, and non-athletic.

In the 1999 NFL draft, tom Brady was drafted 199th overall in the 6th round by the New England patriots. Tom Brady went to owner Robert craft, and said " I'm the best move this organization has ever made".

So how did tom brady win the starting job? It was early in the regular season in 2001 and the patriots were playing the jets. Drew Bledsoe was the starting qb at that time and he roles out in the pocket and ran for the first down. He got hit by 2 jet players and left the game.

After Bledsoe went down, Tom Brady went in as the starter and never looked back, winning the Super Bowl his first year. Yea, tom Brady won the Super Bowl against Kurt Warner( a hall of famer) and the rams his first year as a starting quarterback. Tom Brady would go on to win 4 Super Bowls and appear in 6.

The patriots have been the NFL dynasty of the 21st century. Some of tom Brady's credentials include 4 Super Bowl wins 6 Super Bowl appearnces 3 Super Bowl MVPs2 league MVPs 10 pro bowl appearances 6x afc champion Comeback player of the year. Why did tom brady win comeback player of the year you might ask? Because he tore his acl in the 2009 season against the chiefs which would
hold him out the entire season.

After tearing his acl, Brady made it back to the Super Bowl but lost to Eli manning and the giants on a second consecutive game winning drive. It seemed as though Brady was past his peak and wouldn't win another championship. But, tom Brady overcame the odds once again and beat the Seattle
Seahawks in Super Bowl 49 in 2015.

Tom Brady has been critiqued all his life, but uses it as motivation. No matter what challenge he faces, he uses his competitive edge and winning mentality to overcome the non-believers. Many people may call tom Brady a cheater or a liar, but the fact of the matter is, people are going to hate the best, and tom Brady is the best.

I personally have used tom Brady as a source of motivation, because if tom Brady can overcome a torn acl, being looked past in the draft, barely winning the starting job as a senior at Michigan, and losing 2 of the 6 superbowls he has appeared in, then anything is possible. For me, tom Brady is the person I idolize, but for you, it might be somone else. I challenge you to go out and find somebody that you strive to be like, because if you have any type of figure that you look up to, it makes it a lot easier to decide what type of person you want to be.
