                                                                Monologue 2- Rudy's motivation speech

When looking at the first two monologues, I noticed many differences. I think that it was easier to memorize the first one, because I wrote that monologue myself. Monologue 2 which is a monologue that is spoken by the janitor at Notredame's football stadium to Rudy who walked on to the football team and didn't get to dress for 2 years so he quit. I found that this one was not too hard to memorize, but it just didn't sound like something I would have to say. Another thing that challenged me in the second monologue is that I had to put more emotion into the performance. It took a lot more time practicing in the mirror and looking over the monologue for the second rather than the first but it was more fun in my opinion. From watching others preform their dramatic monologues I learned many things that I liked and disliked. For example I liked that Evan worked the room and there as a lot of energy that went into his monologue. I really liked the content or jacks monologue and how long it was. I liked Hannah's and how she used a "white girl accent". I notified that some people were more comfortable than others in being dramatic. I am still not that comfortable with acting and being "dramatic" and I need to work on that because it is a great skill to be able to be comfortable anywhere you go. I still need to do a little more memorizing until I can do it completely but I think I am close to a finished product. I also notified that I need to find a good and comfortable position when standing and doing my dramatic monologue. Also, I need to decide when I want to point and make hand gestures so it natural and doesn't seem awkward. I don't make many hand gestures when I speak normally so it feels weird for me to do it anytime I am talking. I thought I did a good job if projecting my voice and looking at the audience. I had a hard time remembering the part after the intro but I think if I slow down and take my time a little more than I could kill it. I was bummed that I wasn't able to do the monologue from good will hunting because that was a really cool one I thought. The fact that it actually had some real substance and I like the movie good will hunting a lot to begin with. I am excited to see what our next assignment is so I can find something I really like. I do like Rudy and it is a great movie and story. But it is not the same content as good will hunting and what Matt Damon said. I think that if I find a speech that I like and it's not to long I will definitely be doing it. I liked this assignment and how it kind of brought out class altogether further out of our comfort zones and it was fun to watch.

About my monologue

My monologue takes place at the university of notredame. A college student named Rudy who is on the practice squad on the football team and has wanted to make the team for a long time now. At this point he is in the locker room and he stands on a chair and he says "Rudy: We're gonna go inside, we're gonna go outside, inside and outside. We're gonna get 'em on the run boys and once we get 'em on the run we're gonna keep 'em on the run. And then we're gonna go go go go go go and we're not gonna stop til we get across that goalline. This is a team they say is... is good, well I think we're better than them. They can't lick us, so what do you say men?" It is an inspirational monologue aimed toward his teammates.

                                                                               Monologue from Rudy

The dialogue: Since when are you the quitting kind? So you didn’t make the dress list. There are greater tragedies in the world…Oh, you are so full of crap. You’re 5 feet nothin’, a 100 and nothin’, and you got hardly a speck of athletic ability. And you hung in with the best college football team in the land for two years. And you’re also gonna walk outta here with a degree from the University of Notre Dame. In this lifetime, you don’t have to prove nothin’ to nobody – except yourself. And after what you’ve gone through, if you haven’t done that by now, it ain’t gonna never happen. Now go on back… Hell, I’ve seen too many games in this stadium…I’ve never seen a game from the stands…I rode the bench for two years. Thought I wasn’t bein’ played because of my color. I got filled up with a lotta attitude. So I quit. Still not a week goes by I don’t regret it. And I guarantee a week won’t go by in your life you won’t regret walkin’ out, letting them get the best of ya. You hear me clear enough?

Rudy: We're gonna go inside, we're gonna go outside, inside and outside. We're gonna get 'em on the run boys and once we get 'em on the run we're gonna keep 'em on the run. And then we're gonna go go go go go go and we're not gonna stop til we get across that goalline. This is a team they say is... is good, well I think we're better than them. They can't lick us, so what do you say men?

Reflecting on the the Reflection of Myself

When looking at the video of my "who am I" speech there were many good and bad things that I noticed. I think that I did a pretty good job at projecting my voice although I did fade off on some of my sentences. I noticed that I didn't have much body movement which I was pretty happy about although I was moving my neck more than I should have. I did a good job with keeping to the time restrictions, my speech was almost exactly one minute. I think that my pronunciation was pretty strong, and I think I did an ok job of trying to make eye contact with the audience. On my next speech I will try to look more confident. I think that comes with practice, which means I need to prepare more in front of a mirror,or my family or an type of audience. I also think that I could practice looking for comfortable, which goes right along with confidence. I also noticed that during my speech I stuttered while speaking a few of my lines. I think this was because I was nervous, and the only way I can fix that is, once again, by being better prepared.
I think that I learned a lot from watching my peers do their speech's. I noticed their strengths and weaknesses and I also got to know them better. I noticed for example that Hannah likes to cross her legs while speaking just because she feels it is more comfortable. Or that Evan speaks faster when he is feeling nervous or when he forgets one of his lines. I believe that it is very helpful to watch others, because it can give you more confidence to go up and do it yourself. I liked watching people fail yet they kept trying it over and over again. Or when someone thought that they didn't have their speech down and then they went up and killed it. It is very cool to watch people succeed at something that you can tell they worked really hard at. I also thought it was important to watch others do their speeches because it gave you ideas on what you need to improve on. For example, of someone was moving around a lot and needed to stay still, that would make you more conscious about your body movements when you are up giving your speech.
Overall, I think I did pretty good with my speech. I know that I can and will do better next time and I'm excited for the next monologue. I'm also excited to see what monologues other people will chooses and watching them preform. If I could get better at eye contact, posture, and not fading off at the end of some of my sentences, I think that It would make a huge difference in my speech.Public speaking may be something new to me, but I'm excited to get better at it because it such a great skill to have. I am excited to get started on the new monologue and can't wait to see what the future projects will be.
